Ketosis 101
Meet The Mighty Ketone
- Definition
What comes to mind when you hear the word ketone? If it’s zero-carb snacks and super high-protein bars, you might be missing the most important part: that ketones don’t come in a package.
In fact, ketones are tiny molecules produced naturally in our bodies. They serve as an alternate energy source for important organs like our heart and brain after we use up our body’s store of glucose. The more ketones we produce, the closer we get to a state known as “nutritional ketosis,” a natural metabolic state in which your body adapts to burning fat rather than carbohydrates for fuel.
